The Horror Writers Association, the premier organization of writers and publishers of horror and dark fantasy, announced the winners of the 2014 Bram Stoker Award® during the World Horror Convention on May 9. The winners included Ellen Datlow, Jonathan Maberry, Usman T. Malik, and more.

“The past year had its challenges,” said HWA President Lisa Morton, referring to the passing of her predecessor Rocky Wood in 2014. “But on a night like this, we are reminded of the amazing talent in horror. The men and women honored tonight helped make 2014 an extraordinary year for the horror genre.”

Morton also announced the launch of StokerCon, an annual horror convention presented by the HWA. “When the HWA formed thirty years ago, the organization was small,” she said. “Over the last three decades, we’ve witnessed an explosive growth in horror. It seemed only natural for the premier association of horror writers and publishers to found what we believe will become the world’s premier horror convention.” The first StokerCon will take place May 12-15, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with author R.L. Stine listed as one of the Guests of Honor.

The HWA also presents a Lifetime Achievement Award to living individuals who have made a substantial and enduring contribution to the genre. This year’s Lifetime Achievement recipients are Jack Ketchum and Tanith Lee.
