With this tweet showing the first look at Jason Momoa in costume, Aquaman director Zack Snyder has ushered in the era of the badass Atlantean. We didn’t really doubt that the man who embodied Khal Drogo—and who made a pretty intimidating Drax, even just in test shots—would look like a marine killing machine, but it’s another thing to actually have him glaring at you to assert his status as the one king. Gone is the spandex, and his scales are replaced by tattoos—we like.

We’re assuming #unitetheseven refers to the Seven Seas? Whether that will play into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (which we’re assuming is his first appearance in the DC slate of movies) remains to be seen. We won’t have a solo Aquaman movie until 2018, so there’s plenty of time to work him into the Justice League narrative beforehand.

Specifically, that trident. Last summer, Snyder told a Detroit radio station that he’s focusing not on Aquaman’s (oft-derided) ability to talk to sea creatures, but on his wicked-looking weapon:

The cool thing with Aquaman is his Trident. So you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong cause of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong.

Could Aquaman and his trident stir up trouble in Batman v Superman?
