Lavie Tidhar, editor of the The Apex Book of World SF anthologies, announced today that he and Apex Book Company would be releasing The Apex Book of World SF 4, tentatively scheduled for later this year. Since 2008, each volume has collected international speculative fiction, both in translation and published originally in English.

But whereas Tidhar has edited the last three anthologies, this time around he’s introducing us to the series’ new editor: Mahvesh Murad, book reviewer, radio host, and the voice of Tor.com’s new podcast, Midnight in Karachi.

Tidhar explained on his blog that the The Apex Book of World SF anthologies have always striven to represent diversity in the stories chosen—and that includes who chooses them:

It occurs to me that the key for the anthologies from the start was diversity, a sort encompassing, global perspective. One rule in editing them was not to repeat writers, but use the space as a showcase for different people. The danger with remaining on is to allow my own possible biases to eventually get in the way. And after 3 volumes and nearly 300,000 words, surely it was time for someone else have their say!

At first Tidhar was at a loss for a replacement editor who would bring the same enthusiasm to the anthologies. But once he met Murad—as a guest on the latter’s radio show, 89 Chapters, and then later at the World Science Fiction Convention—he found an editor who cared just as much about bringing The Apex Book of World SF 4 into being. Tidhar will stay on as Series Editor.

As of now, the fourth anthology has a tentative release date in the fourth quarter of 2015 in both trade paperback and ebook.
