The Pure Joy of Flight is Yours: Sketches From Peter Sis’ Little Prince Biography

The recent reveal of the stunning first trailer for the movie adaptation of classic children’s book The Little Prince reminded us… our friends over at FSG Books For Younger Readers recently showed us a bunch of great pages and sketches from The Pilot and the Little Prince, an illustrated biography of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the French author of The Little Prince, that came out this past summer.

For context, here are pages from the actual book. Click any image to enlarge.

And here are author and illustrator Peter Sis’ sketches, which eventually formed those final pages. Even as sketches, it’s clear how evocative Sis’ illustrations are in depicting the life of the Little Prince author, both as an homage to Saint-Exupéry and a continuation of his work.

Just imagine a child’s bedroom plastered with these beauties:

These sketches begin in the most innocuous manner, as rough thumbnails and page layouts. Click the images to see them full size.

Peter Sis’ The Pilot and the Little Prince is out now from FSG Books For Younger Readers.
