Once we got confirmation that Fox was moving forward on a Deadpool solo movie based on the test footage that got leaked, we hoped that Ryan Reynolds would reprise his role as the Merc with the Mouth. Because even though everything about Deadpool’s cinematic introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was disappointing, he rocked it in the test footage.

Now, Deadline reports that Reynolds is closing a deal with 20th Century Fox to put on the red bodysuit again. Plus, the actor posted an almost-confirmation on Twitter…

According to Deadline, the Deadpool movie will be directed by Tim Miller. Though it will also be his feature directorial debut, Miller has done strong visual effects work through his company Blur Films: He worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Miller is developing a screenplay from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland).

While there has been no official confirmation that Reynolds is joining the film, yesterday posted this tweet:

He’s already been very enthusiastic about playing Deadpool—and why not, it’s a way to erase the awfulness of Green Lantern—and this is so close to a confirmation that we want Fox to just announce it already.

The Deadpool movie comes to theaters February 12, 2016.
