Bond 24’s Title and Cast Announced—Sherlock’s Moriarty to Play the Villain!

Bond fans have been waiting on pins and needles to hear about the next film, directed by Sam Mendes. Now we have a name, a cast, and a villain! And they all give pretty clear hints about what we can expect from… Spectre.

Spectre is an organization that Bond has been up against before, one run by Ernst Stavro Blofeld. You might know him better as “the bald Bond villain with the cat.” Or maybe as “that guy Dr. Evil was based on.” (He has been played by about half a dozen guys, though, and gone through a variety of looks.) Here’s the cast, according to ComingSoon.net:

The cast (in the order they were announced) includes Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M, Andrew Scott as Denbigh, David Bautista as Mr Hinx, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser and, of course, Daniel Craig as 007.

So… who’s Blofeld? That’s the question on the mind of many, though no one in the cast is named as such. Rumors have pointed to Christopher Waltz being the most likely candidate, but Andrew Scott (best known as Moriarty on BBC’s Sherlock) is rumored to be the main villain for this film. So maybe he’s secretly Blofeld? Or maybe he’s just the first villain Bond will have to knock down in Spectre, and Waltz will emerge as Blofeld for the next film?

This is all good and fun, but maybe also a bit disappointing. While Skyfall did end on a return to basics, to tradition, it seems a bit much to start straight off with a basic reboot of a more popular Bond villain. After going through all that trouble in the last film to prove that Bond was still relevant, shouldn’t they maybe try something new and keep proving it?

Yeah, it’ll still be real fun to see Blofeld, though.
