It’s been a long time since Helena Raynor’s Sontaran two-parter in the Tenth Doctor’s Era, and fans have been pushing for more diversity in the Doctor Who writing line-up for some time now. Happily, the first step has been made—Catherine Tregenna will be writing for Doctor’s Who’s ninth season next year!

According to Neil Gaiman, the BBC had been on the hunt for more women writers to add to the show’s roster. He said that Moffat had been reaching out personally to many different names he thought would fit the bill, but the majority of them had scheduling conflicts and the like.

But we don’t have to wait any longer! Catherine Tregenna is a Welsh playwright who has written for shows like EastEnders and Law and Order: UK. But Whovians might know her better as the person who penned Torchwood’s “Captain Jack Harkness” episode. You know, the one that made you cry (in a good way).

We cannot wait to see what she throws Capaldi’s way in this upcoming season. And we hope to the variety of voices writing Doctor Who continues to expand!
