Marvel and Netflix are hot on the search for their Jessica Jones! Deadline reports that producers have already lined up at least five very different candidates to play the superhero-turned-gumshoe. (No surprise, seeing as the casting breakdown includes an age range of 25-33.)
The biggest name rumored is Krysten Ritter, whose 1960s space race sitcom Mission Control was recently cancelled. Then there’s Warm Bodies and I Am Number Four star Teresa Palmer—a cool blonde who shares little in common with Ritter in acting style or film choices. The list also includes Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Marin Ireland (The Killing), and Jessica De Gouw (currently playing Huntress on the CW’s Arrow).
Whoever is cast as Jessica Jones will have a meaty role to take on: After suffering PTSD from becoming a villain’s unwitting pawn, Jessica hangs up her costume and instead opens a detective agency. Her experience in the superhero world keeps her involved with the crime scene in New York City, and she has plenty of interactions with the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., and everyone in between.
Producers are also looking to cast superhero Luke Cage, star of his own Netflix series and Jessica’s on-again/off-again love interest. Deadline reports that at least three actors are up for the job: Lance Gross (Crisis), Mike Colter (The Following), and Cleo Anthony (Divergent).
Marvel and Netflix are not the only ones going this route for auditions: 20th Century Fox is reportedly also testing at least three big-name actresses for young Jean Grey for 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, plus three unknowns to play young Cyclops.
