Cover Reveal for The Diabolical Miss Hyde

Tor.com is thrilled to reveal the cover for Viola Carr’s The Diabolical Miss Hyde—a steampunk fantasy retelling of the horror classic in which Dr. Eliza Jekyll, daughter of the infamous Dr. Henry Jekyll, pursues a dangerous murderer in an alternate Victorian London. The first in the Electric Empire series, The Diabolical Miss Hyde publishes February 2015 from HarperCollins.

From Senior Art Director, Richard Aquan:

“Editor Kelly O’Connor, illustrator Gene Mollica, and I worked together from the beginning – selecting the models for Lizzie and Lafayette, poring over hundreds of photos from the shoot, and whittling it down to our favorite poses. There were a lot to choose from! We wanted to be sure to capture the essence of the story: Lizzie Hyde as confident, rebellious, and sexy; Lafayette as strong, vain, and hiding something; the gritty underbelly of London as a character itself. The steampunk touches in the wardrobes were the illustrator’s doing, and they are nods to gadgets the characters use in the book.”

From Viola Carr, author of The Diabolical Miss Hyde:

“This book blends a lot of genres – steampunk/clockpunk, romance, supernatural, mystery, horror – so it was always going to be a challenge to meld those elements into an eye-catching cover that “says what it is.” And of course the titular character had to appear. So the designers wielded their magic – and I think they’ve succeeded! That’s pretty much how I imagine Lizzie, lurking about in a dark street in her saucy red dress, with an eye out for mayhem.”
