Battle to the death, which weapon do you choose: A) Phaser, B) Lightsaber, or C) Wand?

Wand, but only because it has range. I’d pick lightsaber if I knew how to wield one, otherwise I’d probably slice my own face off.

Strangest thing you’ve learned while researching a book?

You really don’t want to know.

The Black Stars Dan KrokosIf you had to choose one band or artist to provide the official soundtrack to your latest book, who would it be?

Tool, for everything.

What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?

I was obsessed with Jim Carrey as a kid, so my mom made me a Riddler costume around the time Batman Forever came out.

What’s your favorite sandwich?

Whichever one I am eating at the moment, but I love anything spicy.

What literary or film science fiction technology do you wish existed in our world right now?

Teleportation, which is probably the most unrealistic choice as well.

What was your gateway to SF/Fantasy, as a child or young adult?

Dragonlance. It also got me back into reading as a teen, which led me to writing my own stuff. As a kid, Star Wars is what locked me in for life.

What would your Patronus/familiar be?

A shadow/fire tiger. Or a land dolphin.

If you could choose your own personal theme music to play every time you enter a room, what would you pick?

Nothing, because it would get old. I would, however, make whoever was supposed to play the music hold extra bottles of seltzer in case I get thirsty whilst entering rooms.

If you could open a new shop in Diagon Alley, what would you sell?

A muggle bookstore. I’m sure there’s a real market for muggle books, the same way there’d be a huge market for books by wizard/witch authors if muggles were allowed to read them.

Having finally established communication with a distant alien species, what’s the first thing that we should tell them about Earth/humans?

Nothing, because if they see we still murder each other over nothing they’ll probably just want to take our water and rare metals before dropping a space nuke from orbit.

Which language, real or fictional, would you like the ability to speak fluently? Who would you talk to?

I’m trying out different languages with the Pimsleur system right now. I just want to be able to visit a country and not sound like a total idiot. Currently a few hours into Russian, but my brother is learning German, and my whole dad’s side of the family speaks Greek, so unless I make some Russian friends I’ll have no one to speak with.

What is your ideal pet (real or fictional)?

Real: Tiger
Fictional: Fire tiger
