Combining CG imagery with digital paintings, Fred Gambino has created a lifetime of work that is as emotionally resonant as it is visually striking. Vivid and bold, Gambino’s work brings together the fragility and power of human beings with the vastness of their unknowable future. His illustrations seem to exist only a step away from our own reality and, while looking at them, it’s hard not to believe that humans could forge a new future, create complex technological advancements, and carve out a place for themselves among distant galaxies. Gambino makes it easy to see humans as being that daring, that important, that beautiful.
Gambino’s work as an artist and illustrator has been incredibly diverse, including the creation of sci-fi book covers and high-profile concept art for a number of television programs, films, and video games. He’s worked closely with Little Brown, National Geographic, Paramount, Scientific American, Lego, Mattel, and countless others.

This 160-page volume contains a wide array of Gambino’s concept art, illustrations, paintings, sketches, and excerpts from his personal multimedia project, ‘Dark Shepherd.’
