This week during a presentation at CineEurope Paramount Pictures confirmed their plan to release Star Trek 3 in 2016. The film and its story, now helmed by Roberto Orci, is rumored to be tackling the grey areas of the Federation morality for which Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek is famed. Although our own Emmet Asher-Perrin hopes they can squeeze in this easy retcon of Khan, as well.
Although already rumored for a 2016 release date, Paramount’s confirmation is welcome news to Star Trek fans hoping for a big-screen presence during the year of the show’s 50th anniversary. It’s not every day that a science fiction series hits the 50 year mark. And it’s nice to have another excuse to make a big deal about Star Trek!
