Something Wicked This Way Comes… to Theaters!

Seth Grahame-Smith has plans to tackle Ray Bradbury’s classic, Something Wicked this Way Comes! Grahame-Smith, the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, wants to go back to the heart of the book, rather than simply remaking Jack Clayton’s 1983 film adaptation.

“I have been so crazy about this book…it is a classic coming-of-age, father-son story about the transition from childhood to adulthood and how kids can’t wait to be adults and adults romanticize their childhoods. I’m not remaking the movie; I want the haunted atmosphere that makes the book so chilling, and I want to reinstate some of the classic scenes from the book that were missing from the ’83 film.”

Bradbury’s 1962 novel follows two adolescent boys, Jim Nightshade and William Halloway, as they encounter a mysterious carnival and its leader, the enigmatic Mr. Dark. Mr. Dark soon entrances their town, granting wishes to people in exchange for their souls (and gaining a new tattoo for each one.) The film with be Grahame-Smith’s directorial debut, and is set to begin production after his completion of the Beetlejuice 2 script for Tim Burton. Will it be as creepy as the 1983 film? Will the new Mr. Dark be as awesomely creepy as Jonathan Pryce? Or will they just get Jonathan Pryce again?
