First Second Announces The Rise of Aurora West, a New Paul Pope Book

Good news for all the fans of Paul Pope’s hit comic Battling Boy! First Second Battling Boy: The Rise of Aurora West, a prequel comic that explores the backstory of Battling Boy’s first monster-fighting ally. We have the first details, along with an exclusive quote from Paul Pope, waiting for you below the cut.

Here’s Paul Pope’s description of The Rise of Aurora West:

“As Battling Boy is the offspring of demi-godlike superheroes, Aurora is the offspring of a techno-champion, more in the vein of Doc Savage or Indiana Jones, if he were a costumed hero. Her series is about the battle with the monsters before Battling Boy arrives.”

Paul Pope is joined in creating The Rise of Aurora West by co-writer J. T. Petty and illustrator David Rubin. It will be out from First Second in July 2014. If you’re in New York city and are craving a Battling Boy fix before then, you can check out the Paul Pope exhibit at the Society of Illustrators. It opens tonight and runs through December 21st.
