At a recent Gamescon event, BioWare, makers of Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins, debuted a dev diary video and released some new info on their upcoming next-gen RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Watch the video below!

A tear to another dimension has opened in the Veil above the world of Thedas, leading to complete upheaval. Dragons wheel above the skies, Mages raise armies against Templars, and nations will rise and fall. You play the Inquisitioner, and your choices will change the shape of the land itself. Literally. Thedas is sprawling new environment of deserts, jungles, mountains, and marshes (and it’s a safe bet that there will be at least one cave.) The decisions you make during your Inquisition will affect the look of the environment.

Promising “a new level of immersion,” players can customize the race, appearance and skill set of their character down to the finest detail—including their strongholds. This is the first time BioWare’s created a lead character that doesn’t need to work their way up to the top of an organization—the player is already a powerful figure within the world. He or she even gets minions agents to send out on missions.

Combat in Inquisition appears to combine the more tactical view approach of Dragon Age: Origins with more dynamic environmental use, thanks in part to the Frostbite 3 engine.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is scheduled for release in Fall 2014, and it’s definitely shaping up to be one of the most anticipated titles of next year. BioWare’s given the DA site a snazzy makeover, too, featuring more art and more details.
