Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Sherlock showrunner, Doctor Who writer, and supremely stuffy Mycroft Holmes Mark Gatiss has been cast in season 4 of Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, the GoT showrunners have not revealed which character he will be playing, but WinterIsComing.net speculates that he will be playing the previously unseen Mace Tyrell, patriarch of the Tyrell family. (A family that, we must say, has been doing a tremendous job of worming their way towards the Iron Throne.)

If Gatiss is indeed playing good ol’ Mace, might we see him make a grand entrance at Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding? And how many scenes will we get of Diana Rigg and Mark Gatiss together before our heads explode from too much awesome?

Other speculation ranges from Gatiss playing blacksmith Donal Noye to one of the forthcoming Greyjoys to…and this would be eyebrow-raising…Coldhands. Although not a possibility, it strikes us that Gatiss would also make a very convincing Varys if the show didn’t already have a very convincing Varys.
