On Monday, Robert Downey Jr. surprised a theater full of kids by popping up at a special Police Athletic League screening of Iron Man 3. The kids, 39 of whom were being honored for their exceptional help in cleaning up areas in NYC that were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, were undoubtedly thrilled.
The event was organized by Disney and the New York Daily News. Reporting on the visit, Downey told the kids:
“You’re the future of the nation. I guarantee if you keep doing the right thing, you’re going to be running the joint in a minute.”
Downey recounts his own time in New York in the New York Daily News video coverage. (Watchable here.)
This isn’t the first time RDJ has popped up to surprise Iron Man fans. He notably made an appearance at a packed Avengers/Marvel Studios 2012 San Diego Comic Con panel and then took some time out to interview a little girl dressed as Iron Man. Here, Downey Jr., just take the keys to our heart. Take them. As if you didn’t already have them.
