This morning, USA Today featured an interview with Marvel Studios head and Avengers mastermind Kevin Feige in which he outlines the struggle that will take place in Thor: The Dark World.
Read about how Jane Foster, Thor, Loki, and Christopher Eccleson’s new character the Dark Elf Malekith come to blows and find out what unanswered question from The Avengers the movie will immediately tackle.
Regarding why Thor didn’t tell Jane he was back on Earth during the events of The Avengers:
“Thor still has lot of explaining to do, and a lot of making up,” says Hemsworth. “Even demigods end up in the doghouse, mate. So none of us is safe.”
Feige reveals that Thor will spirit Jane Foster to Asgard, where she’ll spend the majority of the movie. “So while Thor was a fish out of water on Earth in the first two films (Thor and The Avengers), this time Jane is very much a fish out of water in Asgard,” says Feige.
Worse still, Feige reveals that Odin does not approve of Jane and that the assumption was that Thor would eventually marry Sif, an assumption that Sif shares.
Thor’s battle against the Dark Elf Malekith will eventually require Loki’s help, Feige reveals, allowing Tom Hiddleston to once again play a captivating trickster.
“Needing Loki’s help turns everything on its head,” says Chris Hemsworth. “And it allows us to explore the underlying complexities of their relationship. It really ends up being a kind of chess match.”
