Stefan von Holtzbrinck announced today a reorganization of the Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck. Effective July 2nd, the group will now be composed of three divisions: Global Trade, Global Science and Education, and Holtzbrinck Media.

Stefan von Holtzbrinck said, “The science, education and consumer publishing markets are experiencing significant changes, offering us many new opportunities. This reorganization will allow us to take even more advantage of the converging forces of digitization and globalization by providing us with increased focus and flexibility: There will be more opportunities for cooperation in exciting projects around the globe. The networking of our talents will become seamless by design. I want to emphasize that this change will not affect our long-standing and cherished tradition of independent entrepreneurship in the individual markets. Our authors, scientists, teachers, readers and users, who are at the centre of our endeavor, will benefit from a broader marketing and distribution network as well as from technology investments in a strategically joint up way.”

The global trade division, managed by John Sargent, will consist of all the consumer book publishing operations of the Group, including all the US, German, UK and Australian houses. The global science & education division, managed by Annette Thomas, will consist of Nature Publishing Group, Macmillan Education, Macmillan Higher Education and Palgrave Macmillan and will also include Digital Science, Digital Education and Macmillan New Ventures. In Germany, the organizational structure for the news media (amongst others Die ZEIT) and digital media (i.e. Holtzbrinck Digital and Holtzbrinck Venture) will be unaffected.

The executive board and the branding of the Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck will remain unchanged.
