The Doctor’s Next Companion is… Madame de Pompadour?

BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BIRD?

Bleeding Cool has put together a compelling bit of speculation on who might bop about in the TARDIS with Matt Smith after Amy and Rory exit to their happy make-believe spin-off. They’ve tipped Sophia Myles as the actor playing the new companion. Doctor Who fans should be very familiar with Myles as the the snog-happy Madame de Pompadour in “The Girl in the Fireplace.”

Bleeding Cool cites increased attention to Myles on behalf of Steven Moffat, Doctor Who Magazine, and Writer’s Tale co-author Benjamin Cook. There’s also the fact that her first appearance was in a Moffat-penned episode where she openly wondered at the Doctor’s real name, which is a theme that popped up heavily in the last season of the show.

Moffat has stated that the new companion will be “a new friend” so odds are she’s not playing Madame de Pompadour again, but it seems likely she’ll be a presence once more. You can see the full list of connections at Bleeding Cool.

Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com and knows who the next companion is but can’t tell you it’s Wil Wheaton.
