Next Week in Brooklyn: Talk About a World Where Language Becomes Toxic

As part of Ron Hogan’s blogger/author pairings, author Ben Marcus will be chatting with Tor.com’s staff writer Ryan Britt next week about The Flame Alphabet and the genre elements of this mainstream title. The conversation will take place in Brooklyn at Greenlight Bookstore at 7:30pm on March 19th.  The event is free and open to the public, but there is limited seating, so come early!

The Flame Alphabet presents a world in which language itself becomes toxic resulting in a bizarre and frightening future which the word “dystopian” doesn’t being to describe. With this novel, Ben Marcus burns down a lot of genre conventions and crosses into territories of alternate history, science fiction, and meta-fiction. The ongoing Tor.com series Genre in the Mainstream is constantly exploring fiction like this, with an aim to encourage reader sharing and to keep the conversation about genre crossing active and varied.

More details can be found on Ben Marcus’s site, Greenlight’s site, or the Facebook event page here.
