Today is Mark Twain’s 176th birthday, and as far as we’re concerned he’s never been more alive. Why, just this fall Michael Kupperman released Mark Twain’s Autobiography, 1910-2010, telling the tale of Twain’s life well into the 21st century, as well as revealing the adventures he and Albert Einstein had together.

We’re constantly chattering about him in our Genre in the Mainstream series, whether it’s about Tom Sawyer’s SFF encounters or Twain’s experimentations with time travel, and we’re pretty sure we saw him schooling everyone at poker last night at cousin Finnegan’s apartment in Long Island City.

We feel a particularly affinity for Mr. Twain as Greg Manchess, who designed Stubby the Rocket, also illustrated the U.S. Postal Service’s Mark Twain stamp!

Here’s to you Mr. Twain/Clemens and your pervasive immortality. Say hello to Mr. Data for us!

Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com and mistakenly wrote “pervasive immorality” and had to really consider whether to correct that.
