Weekly Who: The Doctor Wants You to Sleep on His Face

Welcome to our Weekly Who roundup! Every Friday morning (or less if we’ve just been crazy on the Who front) we collect random/cool Doctor Who-related news and things that we’ve found in our internet travels. Feel free to point out your own finds in the comments!

This week, David Tennant wants you to sleep on his face; Neil Gaiman (vamping it up in a very huggable away at right) reveals nothing/everything about his episode “The Doctor’s Wife,” Torchwood: Miracle Day episode titles, and more.

In Doctor Who news:

1.) Everyone (including us) is freaking out about this Saturday’s Neil Gaiman episode. From exclusive interviews released by the BBC, to intense speculation as to why the OLD Tardis control room appears in this episode, to the identity of “The Doctor’s Wife,” everything about this episode of season six is exciting. Did we mention the Ood appear in the trailer? Below, Gaiman meets Matt Smith on the set of Who.

Whose TARDIS is this, anyway?

2.) Torchwood: Miracle Day releases promo images and episode titles. With less than two months away from the premiere of the new season of Torchwood, new promo images have come to light. In addition, Starz has revealed the current titles to all ten episodes of the mini-series.

Highlight to view:

  1. The New World
  2. Rendition
  3. Dead Of Night
  4. Escape To LA
  5. The Categories Of Life
  6. The Middle Men
  7. Immortal Sins
  8. End Of The Road
  9. The Gathering
  10. The Blood Line

3.) Oh yeah, and also Steven Moffat thinks you suck. (Nah, not really.) Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat got his grump on earlier this week at a BAFTA Awards TV event to BBC reporter Colin Paterson in regards to full episode spoilers leaking well before the episodes themselves air:

It’s heart-breaking in a way, because you try and tell a story, and stories depend on surprise, stories depend on shocking people, stories are the moments you didn’t see coming – those are what live in you and burn in you forever. If you are denied those, it’s vandalism.

To have some twit who came to a press launch write up a story in the worst, most ham-fisted English you can imagine and put it on the Internet … I just hope that guy never watches my show again, because that’s a horrific thing to do. …

It’s only fans who do this – or they call themselves fans – I wish they could go and be fans of something else!

The frustration apparently stemmed from a fan posting complete spoilers of the first two episodes of the new season after being invited to a press screening. (The fan or the site involved were not named.)

Moffat’s statement found a wide variety of actions, from sympathy to online vitriol to tongue-in-cheek disagreement. (Our favorite might be the one-note “Angry Moffat” Twitter account.)

Moffat himself later calmed down:

Finally heard my own rant. Grumpy sod. And what a boring, inflection free voice! It’s like [being] told off by the shipping forecast.

On to the cool stuff!

1.) Kenneth Branagh comes on the Craig Ferguson show to talk about Thor, ends up talking about Doctor Who instead. WE KNEW IT. While the Tor.com team was watching Thor last week, one of us commented that it seemed like the movie was kind of what a Doctor Who film would look like. (Right down to Odin’s, er, [highlight for spoilers] regeneration/Odinsleep.)

Branagh and Ferguson, already a noted Who fan, discussed their favorite James Bonds and favorite Doctor Who monsters.

2.) David Tennant wants you to sleep on his face. For charity, he swears. Former Doctor David Tennant is encouraging the world to buy a pillow with his sketchy-likeness. Do you want one? Profits benefit Headway Essex, which provides support for brain and head injury patients.
