George R.R. Martin has a new article up at The Daily Beast detailing his personal Top Ten Science Fiction Films. If you’d like the breakdown, it’s pretty simple: for those of you in need of an SF film primer, this is the motherlode.

The classics are given their fair share of attention, including the original The Day the Earth Stood Still, Blade Runner, and the first two Alien films. Martin makes a point of giving props to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a movie that managed to stand by its unhappy ending, which was basically unheard of in the 1950s. The second parts of trilogies also take the prize with The Road Warrior and The Empire Strikes Back.

Martin’s Honorable Mentions list is also worth mulling over, if only for the well-deserved mention for Galaxy Quest. Ah, Galaxy Quest, how do we love thee? The ways are too numerous to count.
