Jerry Weist

Boskone is coming up and it’s hard to image being there without talking art with Jerry Weist for hours. Jerry was one of science fiction’s great art collectors, comic book dealers, and historians. He started the EC comic fanzine Squa Tront, founded the pioneering Cambridge comic book store, “The Million Year Picnic,” and later he spent years as Sotheby’s comic art consultant. More recently he wrote the Hugo-nominated Ray Bradbury: An Illustrated Life, truly a beautiful art book in equal measure to a biography.

He was deeply passionate about art without boundaries —  conversations would flow from American modernist painters to golden age pulp artists to contemporary illustrators without apology. He had been battling cancer the past few years and finally succumbed January 7th. His energy, knowledge, and passion will be missed.

Irene Gallo thanks Jerry for Pet Sounds among other things.
