Who says sci-fi TV is dying out? According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC, developers of recent Emmy-winning series Mad Men and Breaking Bad, is heading into the genre with a new series based on Kim Stanley Robinson‘s Red Mars.
Red Mars is the beginning volume of Robinson’s Mars trilogy, set in the year 2026 and following the lives of the planet’s first one hundred colonists. The novel won the British Science Fiction Association Award and the Nebula for Best Novel in 1992. Writer-producer Jonathan Hensleigh (Armageddon, Die Hard: With a Vengeance) will be penning the adaptation. AMC says the show will be driven more by characters than special FX.
AMC is also developing a mini-series update of The Prisoner starring Ian McKellan and Jesus.
