It’s a simple one, really. A classic from Villainy 101. Offer a deal that’s no deal at all. “Hey, you do this thing, or everybody dies.” Not what I was expecting from Kang (Jonathan Majors), necessarily, but here we are: He wants Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) to get something for him. Or else.

Also M.O.D.O.K. is here! Say hello to M.O.D.O.K., everybody!

Yes, probably there’s more going on here than meeting the trailer-viewer’s eye; yes, it seems unlikely that this is all poor Cassie (Kathryn Newton)’s fault. But one thing seems pretty certain: We’re dealing with time, and the loss of it, and not just from the blip.

Is the Ant-Man series the place to get all serious about loss? The series that’s generally focused on Paul Rudd heroically bopping about and learning to be a better dad? Given that Quantumania is officially introducing Kang the Conqueror—Majors’ Loki character was different—this film clearly ties in heavily to Marvel’s whole “Multiverse Saga.” And that’s a lot of weight to put on these insectoid shoulders.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also stars Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O’Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz, and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.

It all gets quantummy in theaters on February 17th.
