It’s been over two years since Disney+ announced production centered on the origin story Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo, who we meet in his classic novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It’s only been a couple of months since Disney announced the ten-episode series wouldn’t be streaming on their platform due to cost cuts, but the good news for us is that the show will still make its way to our eyeballs via AMC.

AMC Networks has announced that it has licensed U.S. and Canadian linear and streaming rights to the show, which stars Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery) as a young Captain Nemo. AMC and AMC+ will now release the series sometime in 2024 as “a special television event.”

Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes,” Ben Davis, executive vice president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.”

The series is centered around Latif’s Nemo (pictured above), that marketing copy describes as “the enigmatic Indian prince who steals a fantastical submarine from the East India Company and sets sail in search of adventure under the sea.” In addition to Latif it stars Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville, and Kayden Price. It also has guest appearances from Richard E. Grant, Anna Torv, and Noah Taylor.

“We are so thrilled to present the epic adventures of Captain Nemo and his legendary submarine The Nautilus alongside the other incredible AMC universes,” said producers Xavier Marchand and Anand Tucker in the same statement. “The series will take viewers on a breathtaking journey with Nemo and his crew, battling terrifying creatures and the dark forces of the British Empire.”
