A Softer World 01

As part of its original sequential art offerings, each month tor.com will be bringing you a new A Softer World strip, by the inimitable Joey Comeau and Emily Horne.

There are years worth of classic strips here, but this one is ours.

alt text is a bonus when it fits with the comic. sometimes it is better without.

Hey, no defeatist attitudes! We'll just have to come up with our own.

How about, "darn you, MacAfee"...?

I was just about to post a comment asking where the comic was, when I spotted it below all the comments. That's rather weird behavior.

Beautiful. It's not just because she's a robot, my friend. Or at least, not because she's the steely kind.

Okay, we have finally achieved alt text! Apologies for the delay--due in part to Joey thinking the comic worked just fine without it (which it does!) and in part to functionality issues which we have now resolved--and thanks for your patience.

I love it when my job requires showily seeding the internet with yet more instances of the word "manhood."

Robert @ 13: If you ever see this again, do you happen to recall what route you followed to get here? There's an interesting bug that causes that to happen for most link behaviors. I thought we'd routed out all the places where it appeared, but I'd love to know if there was one that I missed.

So I get the alt text here twice, simultaneously - once as normal alt text equivalent to alt text I see elsewhere, and once in a little dialogue bubble. This could possibly be because I have a firefox extension I had previously installed to let me read the alt text on certain webcomic RSS feeds?

That description probably makes no sense. Just in case, here's a screenshot. Anyone else getting this?

P.S. A Softer World is great.

Hrm. Alright, thanks, guys. I'll see if our developers have any ideas.

I suspect it's probably due to the extension not playing well with the JavaScript, not necessarily due to anything inherently wrong with the page code.

(Problem is if you don't use an extension like this, you can't read long long bits of alt text in FireFox, because the FF implementors are a bit pigheaded about standards interpretation, which means you can't read all the alt text for xkcd or Wondermark, and then life just isn't worth living.)

Right, it's the extension's problem, and it's not like this is detracting from my enjoyment of the comic (or its alt-text). Just putting the info out there. It may be unresolvable, and not need to be resolved.

I Can't see the link to the next comic!
