Announcing Discounted Books on the Tor Store for Cthulhu Month!

Pablo Defendini

In celebration of Cthulhu Month here on Tor.com, we’ve decided to continue our discounting program on the Tor.com Store with a selection of H.P. Lovecraft-related titles from all publishers. This list of books and comics was compiled by editor extraordinaire Ellen Datlow, and represents some of the best of Lovecratiana. All the books on this list are discounted at 30% in the Tor.com Store, which isn’t a bad deal, and comparable to what you’ll find at other online book retailers. They will remain at 30% until 30 December. Look for the nifty badge on the book covers (shown here); that’s how you'll know the book is eligible.

Below is the full list, with links to each book in the Tor.com Store. Additionally, all the books are on the featured spot of the Tor.com Store homepage, and collected in a list, as special picks. Enjoy, and happy reading!

It would be easier for me to decide whether to buy these books if I had some idea of what is in them. For the collections, is it too much to ask that each book's Web page include a list of the stories in that book?

Gotta agree with Patberry. I clicked on the "Necronomicon" link thinking it sounded like an interesting book. I was a possible sales lead for Tor.

The only thing on that page

http://store.tor.com/book/9780738706276

is a picture of the cover and a price of $17.95. Whoah. I'm not used to paying that for a paperback. But there's no text on that page giving me any idea at all of what the book is about or how it has been reviewed. Nothing there motivates me to overcome my resistance to spending $18 on a paperback. Is it full of color images?

To further research the book, I have to go to Amazon, where I'll find the book is priced at $12.95. If the Amazon page persuades me to buy it, I'm more inclined to buy it from them thanks to shipping discounts, etc. Tor, the publisher, sells another book, but Tor the online bookstore, misses a sale.

Really, it's no skin off my ass. I'm just trying to help Tor. If you guys want to develop an online store, it needs some content.

I absolutely agree with the above. Out of sheer fandom loyalty to any company willing to make an 'H.P. Lovecraft' month, I'm willing to purchase a book. But you guys need some publisher's descriptions of these on your website.
