Neal Stephenson Presents Anathem Tonight via Webcast

Pablo Defendini

Neal Stephenson will present his new novel Anathem tonight. The Long Now Foundation will be offering a live webcast of this event, for all who want to catch the the man himself talking about his tale of science monks and interdimensional astronauts on an alternate world.

The Long Now Foundation is concerned with promoting long-term thinking, in contrast to today’s “faster/cheaper=good” mentalities. As such, their most famous project is building the Clock of the Long Now, a.k.a. the Millennium Clock, which served as partial inspiration for Stephenson’s book. You can watch the live stream of Stephenson’s presentation here tonight starting at 7PM PST.

Dyslexia has got to stop. I read that as the "Long Nose Foundation", and got into all sorts of musings about the organization set up by Cyrano de Bergerac to promote Lunar flight. Then I remembered a Dali painting that could easily have been titled "Clock of the Long Nose". I need to lie down now.
