Good news: I didn't hate it. Honestly, I thought it was a little better then I expected. The only issue of concern was their not sticking to The Terminator canon. This seems to be an "alternate future" not the one James Cameron created. I guess you can blame the third movie for this mix up. The third film was good, but not great. Still I enjoyed myself.
Christian Bale does appear promising in the role. I didn't see one iota of bad acting from him in the whole preview. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him act terrible, even in junk like Newsies. Say what you want about the directing, writing and those pointless, endlessly boring show tunes, his acting in that film was well crafted and quite fine.
So I hope Terminator Salvation is really good. Can't wait to see it.

Terminator Files has a great breakdown of seven Expanded Universe timelines; the TV series is a separate timeline, and the new movie will be another timeline.
When people go back in time, they either 1) discover that they already went back, and therefore didn't change the timeline or 2) change the past and create a forking timeline. It's pretty bizarre to have a world where both of these possibilities can happen.
It just happens that all the near-future timelines involve Skynet.
