I might feel less ambivalent about this if McG wasn't directing.

Seen the trailer.

Good news: I didn't hate it. Honestly, I thought it was a little better then I expected. The only issue of concern was their not sticking to The Terminator canon. This seems to be an "alternate future" not the one James Cameron created. I guess you can blame the third movie for this mix up. The third film was good, but not great. Still I enjoyed myself.

Christian Bale does appear promising in the role. I didn't see one iota of bad acting from him in the whole preview. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him act terrible, even in junk like Newsies. Say what you want about the directing, writing and those pointless, endlessly boring show tunes, his acting in that film was well crafted and quite fine.

So I hope Terminator Salvation is really good. Can't wait to see it.

i am very excited for this. have been since i saw the preview before The Dark Knight. but i admit, the last 5 or so seconds of this preview has me worried that this may turn into huge transformer-ish terminators. however, the humanlike terminator with the red eyes looked pretty awesome.

I think casting Christian Bale as John Connor was probably one of the better decisions that the Terminator franchise has made. Despite his amazing job fitting the role of Batman in the new films, I think he can totally bring the John Connor of the future to life, someone we can actually be convinced is a leader (as so the story continues to tell us). I'm excited for this, after the last Terminator film, I was a bit worried, but this is a nice change of pace that I think will really turn out for the viewers.

Uh. So when I read the headline, the first thing I read was "Terminator Salivation trailer leaked." I'm not sure what that says about me, or the alignment of the stars. The only thing I'm sure about is that it makes me wonder -- what could make a terminator salivate?

Pointman74250 - Terminator canon's a lot more complex than it first appears. The second movie has Judgement Day happening in 1997, which has already passed later on.

Terminator Files has a great breakdown of seven Expanded Universe timelines; the TV series is a separate timeline, and the new movie will be another timeline.

When people go back in time, they either 1) discover that they already went back, and therefore didn't change the timeline or 2) change the past and create a forking timeline. It's pretty bizarre to have a world where both of these possibilities can happen.

It just happens that all the near-future timelines involve Skynet.
