So Ben, where are you now? I'm into Toll the Hounds and we're back in Darujhustan! I'm only 200 pages in, but so far, it's great.

How's you like HoC? I liked it. Good luck with MT...I found it tough going for the first half...a whole new cast of characters. It picked up the second half, so hang in there!

Agh...."It is great to be able to do that, but I would want you to read something there accidentally and ruin anything for you." I meant "I would NOT want you to read" any spoilers in my Shoutbox....My typing is horrible in these tiny Shoutboxes! Sorry about that.

Ben. Hello! Just thought I'd check in and see how you were doing. Happily forging ahead, I am sure. I think you are on HoC now? Probably my second favorite book, behind BH. I am sure that you have already thought about this (but I decided to post it just as a reminder for you)...while I will not post any spoilers here on your page, you probably don't want to read any of the posts in my Shoutbox as I frequently am discussing spoilers with other posters there. It is great to be able to do that, but I would want you to read something there accidentally and ruin anything for you. Well, I just happened to think about that and wanted to drop you a reminder about it. Happy reading friend!

Hi Ben. Whew. Sounds like you enjoyed the ride!! An incredible book. I love DG, but as you said, I think MOI is when it all starts coming together. The foreshadowing, the various gods, plots, people. I so loved Whiskeyjack and his relationship with Korlat ;- ( And Paran's journey is so unique...like him a lot too. Oh, there are so many! I'm so glad you decided to read ahead, as the reread of DG will mean so much more to you.....new "lightbulb" moments. HoC and tTH continue with these people, then MT moves to a whole new continent with a new cast of characters. I had a bit of trouble getting into it, as I did initially with DG, but at @ pg. 450 it all took off for me. I'm trusting it will all come together. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with me. I'm glad I didn't steer you wrong!

I think Gruntle's "journey to power" took him completely by surprise as well. LOL Just a suggestion, you may want to bookmark Whiskeyjack's stabbing to make it easier for you to find if you want to reference it again as you continue through the series. I loved all of the "surprise" scenes in MoI. Thank you for sharing them with me! Happy reading!

So many great characters! DG's seems to be the "catalyst" book for many people but for me it was MoI. Paran is one of my favorite characters. Erikson is probably the best at writing "cities" and "landscapes" that I have ever read. I talked about that in one of my posts in GotM relative to Darujhistan. For me, some of the cities he described became almost like a character themselves. He wrote them so well that for me they were kind of like an "entity" or a "character" not simply a background location.

Hi Ben! How're you liking DG and MoI? I HAD to forge ahead....it was just too compelling. I'd love to hear your favorite parts/people/ideas.

I hopeyou don't mind but I added you as my first "Follow" that way I can drop you a note from time to time, just to see how you are doing. I PROMISE, I won't spoiler anything! Please, feel free to drop me a note any time, just to let me know how you are progressing, share an occasional WOW moment, or a moment of confusion, or a theory, or just a "Hey, I'm starting Bonehunters" (my favorite book btw), or whatever. Just, if you feel comfortable to do so...please stay in touch and definitely come back to the re-read when you are finished with DoD! I promise you will never regret it! Robin

I know it sounds weird, but I believe you and I are a lot alike when it comes to how we read/enjoy our reading. I too do not ever like "spoilers" when I read. I never, ever jump to the back of the book to read the ending before I get there. It seems like we both like to figure things out for ourselves, form our own theories, right or wrong. LOL I regret now that I never told you personally earlier exactly how much I enjoyed your posts. I have really enjoyed reading your posts each week as your questions, your comments, your WOW experiences, your impressions in general were so similar to my own on my initial read that I got to relive some of that "wide-eyed innocence" of being new to the series through you. I will miss that more than you can imagine, but I do understand your reasons for wanting to read the remainder of the books before you catch back up with the re-read.

A couple of suggestions that you may find helpful, that I didn't think up until on re-reads. TAKE NOTES. It wasn't until my second or third time through that I started taking notes. I started off just making notes about characters' race, age, home town, etc., because I enjoy knowing where everyone is from and that type of info. Maybe that is not important to you but if you have something specific that you like knowing about your characters, jot it down. You will find as you proceed through these books that there are so many characters that, although you think at the time that you will remember the information, a book or two later, you may not. Also, I would jot down page numbers for an important event, a deck reading, etc., really anything that I thought it was likely would be referenced again later. That way it was easier to find it if I wanted to review it later if it was referenced again. KEEP A LIST OF QUESTIONS! I still kick myself sometimes because I will be reading and have a question and if I don't write it down, a chapter later you can foget it...I'm probably not going to remember what my question was! Lol

Ben, in your post today you stated, " I realized I was too impatient to read along at the reread pace, and I realized I wanted to discover how pieces fit together on my own terms." You sound exactly like me! (I don't know if that is a compliment or not.) LOL I am still re-reading (up my to 6th or 7th time through on some of the books) because I really want to answer the questions myself rather than "cheat" and have someone else answer them for me. This re-read is great for me though because sometimes I just cannot figure something out and there is always someone here to help me out. I can 100% understand your wanting to read the series rather than wait. On my first read, I couldn't put it down! Once I realized that there were just going to be some things that I didn't understand on the first read, and that that was okay, i really loved it. It sounds to me like that it where you are right now and I am so happy that you are at that point because that is when it became 100 times more enjoyable for me! Happy reading!
