Re goof - I first thought it was a rant, perhaps even a mean one, and then I (finally) figured out that the writer was playing a game.

Took me a few minutes but I did figure out it was a goof (a pretty good one). Somedays I am not at my best.

HELP! I can ask three questions for Jo to put (as she wishes) into an email interview with Patrick Rothfuss... and I can't think of even one! Got any good ideas?

Thanks for your (no doubt often disparaged) defense and knowledge of the military. My Marine pilot son is about to face SERE training for next two weeks, so I have a (very) little background of appreciation myself and I always look for your perspective in the thread(s).

Thanks brother. I often wondered why people thought that if you don't believe this then you are that. It never makes sense to me. Also I am from the dumb it down camp. If you can't explain it in plain english, then you are trying to hide something. I hope that things are well in your house. Miss ya and May Our Lord Bless You.

Yeah, I also disagreed on that point, but the unfortunate thing about Twitter is that it's difficult to get too far into distinctions. I'm sort of worried now that I annoyed Brandon on that point; I know he usually likes to stay detached from criticism for the most part.

I mentioned you and wetlander in a conversation that ended up in the Cadsuane category. I hope it's not offensive. :p https://docs.google.com/View?docID=dcjspjqg_71d63nwvcs&revision=_latest (double post)

lol. Also, she was at the top of my comments. I can typically use any regular to get to the new threads. I went to her profile looking for a link to COT2, since I hadn't commented on it, and saw that COT3 was up. Still haven't commented on COT2.

Interesting take on an author! Still, they can't all be super-nice-guys, can they? I think maybe I'll replace Malazan with The Name of the Wind; if I find myself thinking about the characters or wondering what happened to them, I'll go back and try again some day. For now, I just can't care enough. BTW, have you read the Outlander books? (Diana Gabaldon) Several friends have recommended them lately.

Okay, thanks. I just couldn't remember. I'm about a third of the way into the first book, and it's about to fall to the 8 fatal words. I haven't read GRRM, and won't, but it sounds like in some ways Erikson is in between that and WoT. He likes to describe mayhem scenes, and he's quite willing to kill people left, right and center. So far, no sex scenes, or not as such. A couple of seriously creepy characters. But I've been trying to read this thing for a couple of weeks now, and I just can't care. I don't reach eagerly for the book when I have a minute; I'm starting to get to where I reluctantly pick it up to make myself give it a fair chance. I'll give him this - he's got a great mastery of language, and his writing itself is very good. He just hasn't managed to make ME care about his world, and after a prologue and 4 chapters I'm doubting. ::shrug::
