1990s Alt-Theology to Continue Taking over your TV as Preacher Comes to AMC!

So, you remember a few days ago, when we told you that two Neil Gaiman novels were being turned into TV shows? Well, now Preacher is finally getting an adaptation, too!  So, between these three and Sleepy Hollow providing a variety of creative theologies, you'll never have to go to church again.

The show will be produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who gave a typically subdued statement about the project: “This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!” Breaking Bad alum Sam Catlin will serve as showrunner (so possibly Cassidy will have a fondness for meth now?) which can only be a good thing. Garth Ennis also gave a long statement expressing enthusiasm fo the project, which concluded: “I'm particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully — meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation. All in all, it looks like Preacher can now be brought to TV in a way that I'd previously not have thought possible, and I very much appreciate that Steve and I have been included in the conversation in the way that we have.” So this is a very good sign. The television landscape has changed enough that Preacher's hyperviolence and commitment to Tulip-nudity will fit right in, and we're very excited to see this casting process - who are you seeing for Jesse? How the heck are they going to do the ArseFace? Is his suicide attempt still going to be over the loss of Kurt Cobain, or will they update the show? Could the entire soundtrack be done by Vince Gilligan's old schoolmate Jim White, please? Are they going to keep the Neil Gaiman cameo? Will they get Neil to play himself??? And actually, how about Bill Hicks? Aughhh! So many questions!

Please, don't let Seth Rogan f***k tbis up with his humor. I can't speak for the masses, but I can speak for the few that introduced me to this series.

I don't care what color jeans they end up putting Jesse in, if they put Jim White on regular soundtrack duty and get us Zombie Bill Hicks, holy hell I'm there.

If they pull this off, I'll never doubt another television adaptation again. I just don't see how they'll pull it off...

Oh boy, like a 13 year old atheist acting out against their parents! Yeah, real extreme rebellion! Aw, I'm just teasing, I like Preacher alright, but I am really sad that comics seems to have decided to regress to the 90s & stay there. Nu-52, I'm looking at you.

Preacher is one of my favorites, so I'll be following this news closely. Herr Starr plz! Preacher is one of those comics I give to people who don't like comics. It had a few missteps, but overall was really strong. I've been waiting for Arseface onscreen for a long time. Still kinda wish HBO went with Preacher instead of True Blood. But AMC isn't a slouch when it comes to good TV.

Preacher needs to be a hard MA, not a borderlining TV-14, which has generally been AMC's tendency.

Hopeful but skeptical.

Am I crazy thinking David Morrissey might make a good Jesse?
