They Already Made the Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Possible

Turtles Forever

As Michael Bay’s forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie continues its relentless march into existence, it may come as some comfort to know that the best possible Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that could ever be made has been in existence since 2009.

Behold the glory of Turtles Forever!, a 90 minute spectacle which melds the “edgy” 2003 animated show and the wackier original 1987 cast (and also...well, that would be telling) with glorious fannish joy. It’s totally bonkers, respectful and loving with its characters, and more original than anything Bay will ever be able to produce.

The entire movie is available for view online. Time to be a kid again!

This is awesome. Point of fact though: "The original actors from the '87 series were originally going to reprise their role but since 4Kids is a non-union corporation in New York and the actors are Los Angeles union actors, they couldn't afford to hire them, so they had to be replaced which caused some fan problems." (From Wikipedia)

So, yeah, they're not the "original 1987 cast" as you claim.

Also, 2K!Mikey always seemed to me to be the closest in personality to the '87!TMNT, so it was great to see him get along with them.

And there was SO SO MUCH lampshade hanging about the goofinesss of the '87 series. I loved when 2K!Donnie and '87!Donnie are building the portal stick and they're like

2K!Donnie: That really shouldn't work like that...

Awesome! I was a too young to enjoy the '87 TMNT but I remember liking the rebooted 2003 version a lot. Admittedly, I think my first consistant exposure to TMNT was the 1997 live-action show, but from the small parts I remember it may have been even cheesier than the original cartoon.

This article only serves to remind me that Michael Bay is making a Ninja Turtles movie.

Ok, so that was a pretty fun movie. I loved Turtle Prime.

It assumes you're familiar with the new one though...I wish there had been a line of exposition to the 80's turtles as to why Shredder was actually some crazy alien squid thing.

Very clever, especially ... you know. Prime Power!

I've been saying this since 2009! I was lucky enough to see it when it was originally broadcast and loved every second. Glad to see somebody agrees with me!
