Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Goes Viral For Comic Con, Will Link New Movies With Classic Films

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes SDCC 2013 Caesar

To get people excited for the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Fox has given us some tantalizing info regarding the upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in their awesome panel this evening! And their viral marketing is not to be sniffed at either…

The panel had some great information on what we can expect from the sequel; Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is meant to bridge the gap between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the older films. It will take place eight years after Rise, and there will be two groups fighting for survival and control of the planet—humans and the apes. Caesar has a family now and leads a ruling council of apes.

It turns out that many apes were played by Cirque de Soleil performers, which is sort of incredible. And of course, Andy Serkis is back as Cesear!

And to build more buzz for the sequel, Fox has gone viral for Comic Con. There's a website to visit for more information on “Simian Flu,” how it’s affecting the population and what you can do to protect yourself. And that’s not all in their bag of goodies….

Along with the viral site, items were passed out at Comic Con to “protect” con-goers in the form of hand sanitizer and face masks. Superhero Hype had a picture of the swag:

Considering how useful hand sanitizer is in convention environments, handing those goodies out was smart and practical all at once!

Emily Asher-Perrin just wants more Caesar in her life.
