Morning Roundup: Designing Airships Before Air Was Even Invented

Dellschau airship diagram

Check out the amazing airship designs of Charles Dellschau! In 1899 the retired butcher began telling the story of a “secret society of flight enthusiasts” in a series of illustrated journals, which weren’t found until 50 years after his death. Seemingly the tale of the “Sonora Aero Club” is filled with encoded messages, detailed sketches of flying machines, and dapper gentlemen pilots decked out in the styles of the 1850s. Read more about Dellschau here! And read on for more Superman, Super-bread, clockwork insects, and summer.

Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com. Stubby won't admit to being the inspiration for Dellschau's story, but it was totally the inspiration for Dellschau' stories.
