We’re Going to Pretend This Under the Dome Preview is Another Battlestar Galactica Prequel

Under the Dome preview

The latest trailer for the TV version of Stephen King’s Under the Dome is here! And though we’re totally excited about the potential of this show, particularly with Brian K. Vaughan adapting, we can’t help but feel baffled by the use of a faux-version of “All Along the Watchtower,” playing over the trailer. And really, that’s all we need to pretend that this is yet another prequel to Battlestar Galactica.

Okay. Here’s the trailer.

Spoilers for Battlestar Galactica right here (which ended in 2008, so really, these are pretty old spoilers. Also, spoiler alert for the 1960s: “All Along the Watchtower” is a song by Bob Dylan, but more famously covered by Jimi Hendrix.)

In BSG’s third season, the song “All Along the Watchtower” is what makes certain folks realize they are Cylons. Then, in the fourth season, the FIRST planet Earth was discovered, and it was revealed to be populated totally by Cylons. Maybe all these characters on Under the Dome are Cylons, and humanity freaks out and traps them in a dome? Maybe Stephen King and Brian K. Vaughan are really Cylons and they don’t even know it? You’re probably a Cylon, and watching this trailer has probably activated that knowledge. Sorry.

Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com. It actually is excited about the TV show but can only take previews and teasers seriously for so long.

Loved the book. King's stuff has rarely been well-adapted (aside from Frank Darabont and DePalma...there are probably a few other exceptions), but I'll check this out. Hard to tell what kind of quality the end product will be from this trailer, but at least it has Jeff Fahey.

Ah, now, it's very obviously another series of Eureka - it's even got Jo-the-cop trying to figure out what's going on!

To be fair, the song makes more sense here than it did in BSG.

The book was actually really well done and fun read. For once there were several twists I never saw coming. Really looking forward to the sequences of the Dome coming down and the immediate aftermath, although, if they recreate the chipmunk ( I think it was a chipmunk), I may lose my lunch.

Thanks for the BSG spoiler alert. I've only just now gotten around to watching the show and would of been pretty upset if it was ruined. Time to move along

I suppose they chose the song because it starts with the words "There must be some kind of way out of here", even though neither the song nor the story is actually about anyone trying to get out of anything as far as I know - the people under the dome quickly find that there is no way out and spend most of the time trying to survive each other.

A better choice of music might have been, I don't know, Fast Car, Born in the USA, The End, Freebird, New World Man, Turn Turn Turn, maybe even Jailhouse Rock.

@3: That is Natalie Martinez playing the deputy, NOT Erica Cerra, who played Jo Lupo on Eureka. Natalie Martinez had a role on CSI:NY, but I remember her mostly from the unfortunately short-lived Detroit 1-8-7.

I really enjoyed the first 1500 pages, it was the last five that left me cold. As a matter of fact, I loved them.

How do they plan on doing this? Are there going to be seasons? Cuz the story has a fairly defined endpoint, as they can't survive Under the Dome indefinitely. How's this gonna work?

"There must be somekind of way out of here,
said the Joker to the thief."

Fits pretty well imo ;)

I think it's a miniseries or movie --- not a continuing eposodic series.

The video is set to "Private" now, and is unavailable. :(
