Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode Titles Revealed

Game of Thrones season 3 episode titles revealed

WinterIsComing.net recently revealed the episode titles for Game of Thrones season 3, including a third name-change for the George R. R. Martin-penned episode 7. Check them out! SPOILERS AHEAD.

  • Ep. 301 – Valar Dohaeris

Season 2 ended with the episode “Valar Morghulis” which means “all men must die” in Braavosi, so it seems fitting season 3 should begin with the flipside of that statement, “Valar Dohaeris,” which means “all men must serve/live.”

  • Ep. 302 – Dark Wings, Dark Words

Though this is a general Westerosi term for ominous tidings, it would be very cool if it was also referring to the events in Astapor.

  • Ep. 303 – Walk of Punishment

This brings to mind a very specific journey made by a Lannister in A Dance With Dragons but probably this refers to Jaime and Brienne being captured. Or it might be about everyone’s walkabout. Jon, Jaime, Brienne, Arya, Robb, Bran, and more have a lot of journeying to do before they reach the climax of their individual stories.

Or... we could see Theon?

  • Ep. 304 – And Now His Watch is Ended

Obviously referring to the events at and beyond the Wall.

  • Ep. 305 – Kissed by Fire

Sounds like we might see the Sandor Clegane / Beric Dondarrion duel in this episode!

  • Ep. 306 – to be determined
  • Ep. 307 – The Bear and the Maiden Fair

George R. R. Martin’s episode, obviously containing Brienne’s bear fight and Jaime’s tentative step towards Not Being A Complete Monster. The book contains some ominous clues in this scene towards the events of the Red Wedding, as well.

  • Ep. 308 – to be determined
  • Ep. 309 – The Rains of Castamere

Oh boy. Tissues at the ready, everyone.

  • Ep. 310 – Mhysa

Mhysa is the Ghiscari term for “mother.” Since the final episodes of each season have focused on Daenerys, I imagine this involves her taking Meereen.

There’s a lot more speculation about what parts of A Storm of Swords season 3 will contain in this post. Check it out! I mistakenly combine the climbing of the Wall with the attack on the Night’s Watch, but am relatively straightforward on other details, if loopy. Fun times!

Mhysa is the term for Mother that all the freed slaves of Yunkai call Dany after she takes the city. Considering every other story isn't making it past the 2/3 mark of the book it's beyond ridiculous to think this is her taking Meereen. She won't make it there this year.

Chris - c'mon man, have to get Dany's story straight. She conquered three cities: Astapor, Yunkai and Mereen. The slaves call Dany Mhysa when she conquers Yunkai. The taking of Mereen will be next season. I'd also note that I wouldn't be surprised to see Astapor dragon fest in the Kissed by Fire episode in mid-season.

Also in Kissed by Fire - Jon and Ygritte love match FTW. (Wilding redheads are "kissed by fire").

And Now his Watch - both Mormont death and Wildlings accepting Jon as one of theirs.

Walk of Punishment - probably Sam fleeing from Others and killing one. Also could be Theon. Also several of the ones you mentioned.

Dark Wings - way way too early for Astapor (even if it would be cool). More likely ravens informing Robb and Cat about apparent death of boys and telling Wall about attack of the Others and....

Valar D - lots of people serving. Davos agreeing to serve Stannis, Tyrion serving his father as Master of Coin, Meera/Jojen serving Bran... and, most importantly, Whitebeard serving Dany (and probably explaining what Valar morgulis and dohaeris actually mean).

Nah, I still think they're going to combine the Yunkai and Meereen events. I recall reading speculation by Westeros.org siterunner Elio Garcia about that possibly happening (Either on his site or on io9.) and since he's plugged in to the behind-the-scenes goings on, I'm taking his speculation with more weight than I usually would.

But I certainly won't be disappointed if I turn out to be wrong! And if they do keep Yunkai and Meereen separate then it would absolutely make sense to stop at Yunkai.

I'm thinking the Walk Of Punishment might have something to do with Tyrion and Sansa's wedding too.

Chris - I see your perspective, and you could be right, but I'd be shocked for all sorts of reasons (especially timeline differentials) if they combine Yunkai and Mereen. What will they do with Dany in Season 4 - sit on her throne in her tokar and stew for an entire season because she can't control her dragons? God, I hope not.

I took "Walk of Punishment" as a reference to the Night's Watch's death-march retreat from the Fist. Since 304's title hints that it will include Mormont's death at Craster's, 303 would be the logical point for that retreat/Sam slaying the White Walker to fall. (It could also be the episode where Jaime is led--bound, handless, and humiliated--into Harrenhal, giving the title a cool dual significance.)

Well the showrunners love the quadruple entendres in their titles, so it will probably have all of those things. I'm just thinking of how Sansa's bridal march will feel.

RobM, I think my biggest qualm with putting Meereen in season 4 is making Dany's march up the coast seem interminable. As in... what'd she do last season? Free slaves. What is she doing this season? More of the same.

Although, that could be avoided if you made a big production out of Dany sieging Meereen throughout the course of season 4.... Hm. I think I just convinced myself that you're right!

Re: Sansa's wedding. I wonder if that will be episode 306. The wedding is rushed because of Tywin's plans for Robb, so that would make the last half of season 3 just one long ominous run-up to the Red Wedding.

Mereen - lots of drama. Jorah and Whitebeard betrayal. Flirting with Mr. Stormcrow post-Yunkai. Decision re how to take the City. Early problems with ruling it (blending into the start of ADWD). Sounds like a full season to me. :-)

Sansa - Could be your's or Aeryl's theory of Ep 4. Need an episode or three of good painful Tyrion-Sansa scenes as a married couple before the RW blows it up.

GRRM has said that the episode he wrote (307) will feature, among other things I'm sure, Sansa and Tyrion's wedding. Also, I agree with most of what RobM guessed. One last thing, 'Valor Morghulis' is old Valyrian.

I've only heard GRRM say that everyone will HATE him for 307, but if so, they're postponing it a bit, aren't they? I seem to recall it much earlier.

IIRC, the RW was about three quarters of the way through the book. Man, still a whole month to wait!!

Aeryl--I believe Sansa and Tyrion's wedding was confirmed on Winter Is Coming for episode 308.

@3: TorChris. Dany is going to be sitting in Meereen until around season 5 when Tyrion and Victarion (and maybe Quentin) join her, and she has to get sufficient screentime until then. I expect they'll have to invent some extra action to accomplish this, the way they did in season 2. The last thing they want to do is decrease her storyline by combining Yunkai and Meereen.

I sure hope I don't have to wait till season 4 to see that little putz get what's coming to him! And I don't mean the Dwarf! I really like his character!
