Contemporary Doctor Who Episodes as Retro Book Covers

Contemporary Doctor Who Episodes as Retro Book CoversDuring the 1970s and onwards until the show was cancelled, Target Books published novel adaptations of Doctor Who episodes. The style of the cover art on these books—often hand-drawn, a mishmash of elements from the episode—has become somewhat iconic to Who fans in the decades since. You know a Target Book when you see one.

Over on The Doctor Who Reprint Society a user called Old Type 40 has made a slew of faux-book covers featuring the Ninth and Tenth Doctor adventures in the style of the old Target books! How cool are these? Check out a selection below the cut.

That is awesome. I read those books all through high school. (Including many a book for Doctors and companions whom I'd never seen in an actual episode, which made for some entertaining revelations when I corrected that later.) This makes me want to go dig out the tie-in novels again; it's a pity I don't own any now.

Oh wow. Want!

I have about 70 of the old novelisations (and had never seen the original series) so most of what I know about Classic Who is from those...

Nostalgious :(

I couldn't care less about Dr. Who and those are still insanely awesome.
