On Our Radar: Cool Photos of Real-Life Wheel of Time Characters

Dim Horizons Wheel of Time photo shoot

Dim Horizons Studio recently staged a photo shoot assembling the three main ta’averen from the Wheel of Time series in costume and the results are pretty spot on. You can see The Shadow Rising ebook cover art re-enacted above, with James Atkins as Mat.

We’ve posted a few more of our favorite shots below, featuring Paul Beilaczyc as Rand, John F. Strangeway as Perrin, Paige Gardner Smith as a Maiden of the Spear, and an adorable puppy as a puppy. (Okay, it’s a full-grown husky as a wolf but... PUPPY!) The studio did a great job in really getting the feel of the Darrell K. Sweet covers, too.

There's two Mat's. One is Cliff Tunnell and the other is James Atkins. The Aiel is Paige Smith. All of these guys, except the dog, are regulars at JordanCon and Dragon*Con, as well as a ton of other fan events in the Southeast.

Oh and Paul's last name is Bielaczyc.

I particularly like the Maiden's Kiss re-enactment.. though that dog steals every shot. PUPPY!

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this feature! Those of us pictured in the Dim Horizon shoot are ALL dedicated fans of Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson Wheel of Time.... it was our fandom of the book series that got us all thinking how cool it would be to build costumes from the books. Having Dim Horizon's magic touch on the photography - simply put - brought it to life for all of us! Appreciation to TOR!

Yay! Gorgeous shoot, featuring some great people! I had the pleasure of meeting everyone (including Dim Horizon) at JordanCon 2012, and they're just as fun as you'd imagine from the way they sell these shots! :)

Edit: Oops, John wasn't at JordanCon (that I saw...), but he was around last year.

John was there - but he was stuck in the Dealer Hall/Art Show room most of the con. It wouldn't be a party without John. :-)
