Saturday Morning Cartoons: “Strings” and “The Old Man and the Sea”

Paint on glass is a painstaking animation technique that involves shooting an image painted on glass, then repainting part of it before shooting the next frame. The stories told with it can be limited to a small apartment or the vastness of the sea.

Strings: An old building causes two neighbours to meet for  the first time. (10:23 minutes)

The Old Man and the Sea: This is also the first animated film to be released on IMAX. (19:56 minutes)

René Walling is a fan of SF, animation and comics, this has led him to co-chair Anticipation, the 2009 Worldcon, be involved with fps magazine for more than a decade, and start Nanopress, a Canadian small press. He looks forward to living on Mars where he would benefit from having more than 24 hours in a day.
