Ender’s Game Casting: Ford is in as Graff

100 years from now, the most influential science fiction/fantasy universes will be remembered as all having a common element: Harrison Ford. He’s got Star Wars, Blade Runner, Indiana Jones, Cowboys & Aliens, and kind of E.T. And now, he’s set to be an integral part of one of the most popular SF universes of the past 20 years. Variety is reporting Ford is locked in to play Hyrum Graff in Ender’s Game. Graff is Ender’s hard-edged military mentor, though the character isn’t completely soulless. Throughout the books Graff struggles with a variety of ethical dilemmas, many of which Ender is central to.

Can Harrison Ford do a dysfunctional militaristic sort of father figure? We think yes!  Apparently Viggo Mortensen was also being considered, but what do you think? Is Ford right for this part?

I was skeptical about Ford as Graff in the previous thread, but for some reason the headshot above totally sold me.

Great choice. Especially if they weave the the Ender and Bean stories together in the movie as Card wanted too. I felt that Graff was a much richer character after reading more about of him in Ender's Shadow.

Cowboys & Aliens is an influential SFF universe?

I think he would have been better cast as Mazer Rackham.

I was thinking of him for Mazer Rackham as well, but this will work great too. The coolest aspect of this is that I finally believe that this movie will actually be made.

Huh. The older he gets, the more he matches my internal picture of Aral Vorkosigan.

I think I read elsewhere that they might be considering Ben Kingsley for Mazer.

I think this is an excellent choice. And I have to agree with zenspinner also...Aral Vorkosigan too!

Oddly, it's one of his non-sci-fi roles that makes me think this is a good choice. When I read the headline on this entry I thought of him in Persumed Innocent.

I'm just excited I get Harrison Ford in the movie! Time for a reread because I don't remember anyone but Ender and Bean >.>

Mazer Rackham is Maori, please no typical white American.
