New Redband Trailer for The Thing is Genuinely Scary!

Here it is: the new gory, creepy scary trailer for The Thing. It looks like this movie could really get under your skin. No pun intended. Actully, strike that.  Pun totally intended. What did you think? Did you watch it with the lights off? Why did you do that?!?

Stubby the Rocket will never fall in love again.

Doesn't look significantly different than Carpenter's version from this trailer. Even some of the shots look the same. This time MacReady (or that character whatever the name) is played by a woman, not enough to get me in the theatre. Especially since I just bought a Special Edition DVD of the Russell/Carpenter version.

Okay - after a little research I see this is supposed to be a prequel to the '82 Carpenter film. I got this off IMDB:
"Is this film a remake of the 1982 film 'The Thing'?
No. This film will actually serve as a prequel to the 1982 movie
The Thing (itself another adaptation of the John W. Campbell story that was the basis for the 1951 classic The Thing from Another World film), as the film will detail the events that took place in the Norwegian camp from that film. According to the screenwriter, painstaking care has been taken to assure that the prequel will take into account all the details about the Norwegians and their camp as seen in the original movie. The movie will end approximately where the original film begins. The reason the movie has the same title as the first film is because the filmmakers felt that adding a subtitle such as "The Thing: Begins", "The Thing: Origins" and so forth, did not sound as reverential as just simply naming it "The Thing". If you look up any of the proposed and existing "Thing" projects they all have "The Thing" as their title. Unfortunately, this confuses a lot of the public audience, but that's the title Universal wants. One could also see it tying into the idea of the Thing, which is indistinguishable from whatever it directly pertains to. An identical title, which confuses viewers, much as the creature itself does."

It's a remake, reboot, and prequel all in one!

saw it with "contagion." i really love the carpenter version, but i will see this. especially if it's a prequel. although, really it doesn't matter what happened in the norwegian camp. we know enough. they dug it up, horror ensued and the final survivor went boom.
