Captain Kirk Brings Sexy Back at the Rodin Museum

So, you know, if you’re in France and missed the screening of William Shatner’s The Captains, there are other ways to get your Kirk Fix.

In fact, at the Musée Rodin, Douglas Gordon has created an exhibition titled Star Trek, Predictable Incident in Unfamiliar Surroundings. The entire show consists of slowed video clips demonstrating the Captain of the Enterprise doing what he does best: kissing ladies.

According to a writeup of the exhibit, the way the scenes have been edited, looped and decelerated reveal the eroticism and violence inherent in these moments, but often lost when watched at full speed. Why the Rodin Museum? It ties into the supressed lust visible in Rodin’s own work, encouraging art enthusiasts to explore these images a little closer.

Quite a way to spend a lazy summer afternoon. The exhibit runs until September 4th, so hop a plane to Paris today.

"Douglas Gordon’s video installation Star Trek, Predictable Incident in Unfamiliar Surroundings (1995) is based on excerpts from the famous American television series Star Trek, rare scenes featuring the hero of the series, Captain Kirk, kissing one of the women aboard his spaceship."

ummmm... I'm not a 100% sure on this but doesn't Kirk kiss a girl/get the girl in every single episode? Isn't that a running gag with fans? Didn't Galaxy Quest do a send up of that? Kirk always loses his shirt and always kisses the girl... Of course this could be a play on the whole thing, I didn't know the French liked Kirk, always pegged them as appreciating RSC trained Stewart. I live, I learn:)

Le sigh- Paris

Woof™.
