Jul 20 2011 11:35am Birthday Estes Rocket Sweepstakes!

Today is our 3rd birthday and the 42nd anniversary of man walking on the moon. The timing of’s launch in 2008 and the moon landing anniversary was no accident, of course. The idea being  to link this new community site of ours to the same spirit of exploration and wonder that the moon landing inspired in humanity. Our site’s motto, “Science fiction. Fantasy. The universe.” reflects this desire, and our mascot, Stubby the Rocket, represents a way to achieve it.

So on this day, our 3rd birthday, we have a rocket sweepstakes for you!

Enter in the comments below to win this Estes model rocket kit, and plan an exploration mission of your own. Because you deserve all the wonder that Stubby brings to our office.

They closed all the old places that I used to buy these things. They are hard to find here in Utah now. I guess online is where to look, but its not the same. My kids love watching and helping, when we can find engines for them.

Happy birthday! Today happens to be my birthday as well. You're doing incredibly well for your age. On my third birthday I mostly stumbled around and couldn't control my own bowels. Also, when I was three the moon landing was celebrating it's 15th anniversary. If I'd been older I might have gotten Neil a nice crystal vase or something. Anyway, here's to many more years of exploring!

The last time I built one of these rockets was around 20 years ago. Man, that was fun.

The old Estes Super Flea reminds me of Stubby. I've also lost at least one of those and a couple others in trees in years past. Perhaps it's time to introduce my daughter to the joys of losing rockets in the fields and forests.

What a great contest!
