Two Hotly Anticipated Films Release Posters: Brave and John Carter of Mars

Though we’re in the middle of summer 2011 blockbusters right now, we can’t help but look to the future with the release of these two new posters for sumer 2012.

With Brave it seems that Pixar has finally taken on a female protagonist!  Emma Thompson, Robbie Coltraine, Kelly MacDonald and Craig Ferguson are all provivding voices.  It looks like the tale of a this Scottish princess will have a trailer sometime next week.

Will it work out?  Will Pixar give us something special, or will this be more like Cars 2?

Pixar has almost always delievered quality, though we’d argue something a little more like Up was the last time it was truly stellar. We’re hoping for integrity over marketing with Brave, and early indications seem to point in that direction.  In anycase, not since The Incredibles have we seen some truly great female characters from this awesome animations studio.  Here’s hoping they deliver.

And after so many false starts, this might be the John Carter of Mars we’ve been waiting for. For fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs this film has been a long time coming.  But will it break the curse of movies that take place on Mars? (Many of them are bad!)  Will it be great or too kitschy?  Have we moved passed big greeen amazon monsters on Mars?  Or is this the perfect time for John Carter?

Next summer will hold the answers to these teaser posters!

What do you think?  Will Pixar continue to score?  Will John Carter be a faithul adaptaion? Which will you see?

Stubby the Rocket is the voice and mascot of Tor.com.  Stubby is braver than John Carter.

I completely agree with you about Pixar.

I'm on the fence about John Carter of Mars; I love the books, but I'm concerned that it will either go Avatar-style in the CG department...or it will be entirely effects-less like the last attemept that stared Traci Lords and a red lens-filter (not in that order). There might have been a male lead, but as he spoke no dialog more complex than a string of grunts, the portrayal is hard to recall.

The most anticipated thing about "John Carter" is what the producers will do about Dejah Thoris' costume. :-)

A Pixar movie "set in the mystical Scottish highlands"? Summer 2012 can't come fast enough.

It's as if The Incredibles never happened.

For the love of ALL that is great about ERB, let John Carter be better than 'Princess of Mars'! John Carter of Virginia, "US Army Special Forces" (but calls himself a 'jarhead') as a LRRP Op in post-9/11 Afghanistan? Traci Lords as Deja Thoris?!
