CDC Urges Preparation for Zombie Apocalypse

Well, sort of. Centers for Disease Control Assistant Surgeon General Ali S. Khan published a rather amusing blog entry titled Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse earlier this week and while tongue was planted firmly in cheek, the message was pretty solid.

In his excellent New York Times editorial piece, Chuck Klosterman described zombies as a collective fear projection of the boring, unstoppable forces that will consume us in our humdrum lives. That being said, the undead still continue to fascinate teaming masses of fans, forcing a lot of people who otherwise wouldn’t to consider survival strategies for the end of civilization.

So why not capitalize on zombie fandom and encourage even more serious thought and discussion on the topic, right? That’s exactly where Khan’s post comes in, encouraging them to assemble exactly the sort of emergency preparedness kid and family emergency plan (evacuation plans, Rendezvous points) that can make a difference in the event of a natural disaster, mass infection or chemical/radiological attack.

Khan provides a checklist of water, food, medications, tools, hygiene products, clothing, first aid and important documents. Somehow chainsaw gauntlets and cricket bats didn’t make the cut.

It’s an entertaining read, so be sure to check it out. And if zombies ever do become a reality, you’ll have a leg up.

Are you prepared for an imminent zombie invasion? That was the query posed by the CDC, and it was entitled "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse". It is common at this time of the year to take into account a potential zombie apocalypse. You have to ask yourself -- am I economically ready, should the deceased begin to rise, walk the earth and feast on the living? Here are some tips and hints for being better ready. And these suggestions aren't just for the zombie apocalypse. Here it is: Are you financially prepared for the zombie apocalypse?. You may laugh now, but when this happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.
