Game of Thrones: New official poster

HBO’s just released an intense new poster for Game of Thrones—which premieres on April 17th, but in case you need further assurances that Winter is (finally) Coming, here’s Sean Bean as Ned Stark brooding on the Iron Throne…

They should have shown him with Ice.

Ned never sat on the Iron Throne in the books, only Robert, the Targaryens and Jaime Lannister King-Killer. Waiting to see if this scene will show up on the tv series. The wait for it to come out on tv in the country where i'm staying is harder than waiting for the next book to come out. At least everybody suffers equally waiting for the book but im so pained by the fact that you USAns can watch it in a few short weeks/(months?).

Erm, actually...I just finished AGoT and I'm pretty sure Ned DOES sit on the Iron Throne. His leg is hurting really bad and he sits on it for a bit and reflects on how uncomfortable the ridiculous thing is.

But, aside from that, I reckon the point of this poster is more artistic than literal. Probably to show Ned, and, you know, a throne. THE throne.

If Ned were holding Ice his hands would be over his head, that would look silly.

I think they should change the tag line to "You win or you die, and we mean it". Just to give the uninitiated, a heads up.

@5 Exactly :) I'm holding my breath until they change the official tagline to Game of Thrones: CAKE OR DEATH?

I only just read grrm's announcement that dance will be out in July 2011 barring tsunami or other disaster, so I will be rereading the whole series and hopefully remember to check if Ned does sit the iron throne; I vaguely remember the part about ned's leg hurting so I'm inclined to admit I was wrong about it but still not completely convinced yet. Still, another commenter on grrm's notablog wrote almost exactly what I did. So who knows for sure until rereading. Btw, forgot to mention AWESOME POSTER.
